DBSV Teej Celebration 2024

The recent Didi Bahini Samaj Victoria (DBSV) Teej event held on August 24, 2024, was a vibrant celebration highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the Nepali community in Australia. The event, attended by around 700 participants, was a resounding success, receiving positive feedback from those who attended.

Teej event was a vibrant celebration of Nepali culture and tradition, featuring various cultural performances by talented DBSV team members. The highlight of the evening was the unlimited floor dance, where participants and attendees joyfully engaged in traditional and contemporary dance styles. The celebration was also a meaningful occasion for visiting parents from Nepal, who participated in the festivities and connected with the community. The event was graced by the presence of several honourable dignitaries, including Member of Parliament Peter Khalid, Mr Nirajan Gauli, Honorary Consulate of Nepal, Victoria (Melbourne), respective Councillors from Brimbank and Merri Bek Council, community leaders, proud sponsors, and supporters.

Member of Parliament Peter Khalil was among the notable attendees and Chief Guest. In his address, Khalil emphasized the importance of maintaining strong collateral relationships within the community and expressed his commitment to future collaborative efforts to support cultural preservation and community well-being. The address by Honourable Peter Khalil, MP was met with warm applause, reflecting the community’s shared appreciation for the tireless efforts of DBSV and the positive impact it continues to make.

The newly appointed Consulate of Nepal (VIC) Mr Nirajan Gauli took the opportunity to address and commend the contributions of DBSV to the wider Nepali community. In his speech, the Consulate General highlighted the significant impact that DBSV has had in supporting and empowering survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, not only within the local community but also in Nepal. He expressed his deep appreciation for the ongoing community work that DBSV continues to do, acknowledging the dedication and commitment of the organization’s team members and volunteers. The Consulate General emphasized the importance of such initiatives in strengthening the Nepali community abroad and building bridges of support and solidarity. His remarks underscored the vital role that organizations like DBSV play in fostering a sense of unity and in providing crucial services to those in need.

DBSV President Roshani Shrestha also touched on the recent tragic incident in the USA, where a Nepali woman was killed by her husband, underscoring the ongoing issue of domestic violence. President Roshani Shrestha stressed the need for continued efforts to combat domestic violence both within the Nepali community and beyond.

The event featured captivating performances by guest artists Komal Oli and Ramesh BG, whose stage presence energized the crowd. Participants expressed their enthusiasm and appreciation for the performances, which added a festive spirit to the occasion.

The event wasn’t just about cultural expression; it also had a noble cause at its heart. The aim was to raise awareness and support for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in Nepal. Funds and resources raised during the event will go towards initiatives to help these survivors reintegrate into society, providing them with the support and opportunities they need to rebuild their lives. Through the event, DBSV emphasized that preserving cultural traditions in Australia goes hand in hand with supporting those in need, making the event a meaningful gathering for the community.

The evening was a powerful combination of cultural pride and community solidarity, showcasing the strength and resilience of the Nepali diaspora in coming together for a cause that resonates deeply with their values.
